DESCRIPTION:ABOUTPROGRAMMEPRACTICALITIESREGISTRATIONABOUT\nICC Belgium is organising an event during national Mediation Week\, starting 12 October\, on international dispute resolution for Belgian companies. When a cross-border deal goes wrong\, litigation abroad is rarely the fastest or cheapest way out. We’ll show how ICC Mediation helps companies resolve international disputes on their own terms preserving the commercial relationship\, controlling cost and timing\, and keeping matters confidential. We’ll explain how the procedure works in practice\, share the experience of companies that have already used it\, and show how mediation connects seamlessly to ICC arbitration when a negotiated outcome is out of reach\, with a look at the revised ICC rules in force since 1 July 2026. \nPROGRAMME\nDRAFT PROGRAMME \n2:00 pm – 2:10 pm | Welcome and opening \n2:10 pm – 2:30 pm | ICC Mediation: why opt for amicable resolution? \n2:30 pm – 2:50 | ICC Mediation in practice\nA key point: under international rules\, you can designate an institution’s rules in your contract. SUMMARY:11th Brussels Seminar on Export Controls & Economic Sanctions
DESCRIPTION:ABOUTPROGRAMMEPRACTICALITIESREGISTRATIONABOUT\nICC Belgium and the FEB are proud to present the 11th edition of the Brussels Seminar on Export Controls & Economic Sanctions. \nFor more than a decade\, this seminar has been the meeting point for Belgium’s export control and sanctions community. \nWhat was once a niche compliance concern has become one of the defining challenges of doing business internationally. Across eleven editions we have followed the field through the annexation of Crimea\, the full-scale invasion of Ukraine\, an unprecedented expansion of restrictive measures\, and the steady rise of economic statecraft as an instrument of geopolitical competition. \nThe pressure points\, however\, keep shifting. While measures against Russia remain a constant backdrop\, attention is turning to new fronts from Iran\, where EU and US measures increasingly diverge and where the indirect impact on Russia is coming into focus\, to the fast-moving world of export controls on AI\, semiconductors and advanced computing\, much of it US-driven and reaching deep into European operations. For companies caught in the middle\, the compliance burden has never been heavier  and the financial\, criminal and reputational cost of getting it wrong has never been higher. \nThe programme opens with a keynote by David O’Sullivan on circumvention and what a credible compliance programme really needs to look like — the question at the heart of enforcement today. And\, as always\, the seminar keeps its transatlantic perspective: with speakers from both the EU and the US\, it offers a rare opportunity to see how Brussels and Washington each approach these measures where they converge\, and where they pull apart. \nBringing together leading experts from EU and US authorities\, industry and the legal profession\, this year’s edition will explore: \n\nCircumvention and compliance:  David O’Sullivan on what a credible compliance programme really needs to look like today;\nIran in focus: diverging EU and US measures\, and the indirect impact on Russia;\nEnforcement and dispute resolution:  penalties\, criminal liability\, and how sanctions play out in arbitration and litigation;\nThe new technology frontier : due diligence on AI\, semiconductors and advanced computing controls\, and the practical challenge of navigating US rules\n\nJoin leading practitioners and policymakers on 10 November 2026 in Brussels to gain practical insight into a fast-moving regulatory landscape\, exchange experiences with peers\, and prepare your organisation for what comes next. \nWe look forward to welcoming you to the 11th edition! \nPROGRAMME\nDraft programme\nModerated by: Julie Deré\, Secretary General\, ICC Belgium \n\n10:00 am | Welcome & Opening\nIntroduction and scene-setting for the day\nOlivier Joris\,  Executive Manager – EU & International Department \, VBO-FEB \n10:10 am – 10:25 am | The Year in Review: Headlines That Shaped the Landscape\nA fast-paced run through the past twelve months\nThe key developments that set the scene\, from both an EU and US perspective. SUMMARY:Joint Arbitration Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:ABOUTPROGRAMMEPRACTICALITIESREGISTRATION & FEESABOUT\nJoint Arbitration Day – Second Edition\n \nICC Belgium\, together with ICC Netherlands\, ICC France and ICC Germany\, is pleased to host the second edition of the Joint Arbitration Day. \nA full afternoon of practical\, cross-border discussion on the issues actually shaping international commercial arbitration in Europe right now: from the European Union’s evolving relationship with arbitration\, to the new 2026 ICC Rules\, to the disclosure questions raised by the use of AI. The day brings together arbitrators\, in-house counsel\, external counsel and the bench from different jurisdictions\, with the user voice deliberately built into every session. \n\nPROGRAMME\nProgramme\n12:00 – Networking lunch \n13:00 – Welcome \n13:15 – Keynote: Geopolitics – Europe’s uncomfortable position \n14:00 –Panel 1: How is EU law shaping commercial arbitration? \n14:45 – Coffee break \n15:15 – Parallel break-out sessions \n16:30 – Panel 2: View from the bench \n17:00 – Networking drinks \n19:00 – Dinner (central Amsterdam) \n \nSessions \nKeynote: Geopolitics – Europe’s uncomfortable position\nA non-legal opening on the geopolitical reshaping that is squeezing European business between US technological leverage\, Chinese economic dominance and Russian military pressure. Paul Verhagen\, Senior Fellow at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies\, Strategic Liaison at the UvA Civic AI Lab and lecturer at the University of Amsterdam  examines how the global technology landscape is fracturing into competing US\, Chinese and European blocs\, and what this strategic shift means for European business across AI\, critical infrastructure and trade. Drawing on the thesis of his forthcoming book\, The Techtonic Shift: Power\, Tech and the End of Nations. \nPanel 1: How is EU law shaping commercial arbitration? \nEU law has moved from the background to the foreground of commercial arbitration. Following the CJEU’s Achmea and Komstroy line of case law\, alongside state aid issues and the responses of national courts across jurisdictions\, tribunals\, users and counsel are increasingly required to grapple with questions that would have seemed remote only a few years ago. \nParallel break-out sessions\nSmall-format sessions running in parallel\, designed for substantive engagement rather than passive listening. \n1. AI in Arbitration: Disclosure\, the ICC Task Force and the EU AI Act\nArtificial intelligence is reshaping how arbitrators work – but the rules governing its use are still being written. This session focuses on two concrete pressure points: the disclosure obligations arbitrators face when using AI tools\, including the ongoing work of the ICC AI Task Force; and the implications of the EU AI Act for arbitrators seated in EU jurisdictions. Both issues are live now and affect practitioners across Belgium\, France\, Germany and the Netherlands. Less a survey of AI in arbitration\, more a practical reckoning with obligations that already apply. \n2. Drafting Arbitration Clauses for 2026: EPP and Highly Expedited Arbitration\nThe 2026 ICC Rules introduce the Highly Expedited Arbitration procedure – but opting in (or out) requires deliberate drafting choices that many standard clauses do not yet reflect. This session is designed for in-house counsel: what does the new procedure actually offer\, where does it create risk\, and how should arbitration clauses be drafted or revised to reflect it? Workshop format\, with clause language under the microscope. \n3. The 2026 ICC Rules: New Disclosure Obligations and What They Mean in Practice\nThe 2026 ICC Rules impose a new obligation on parties to identify and explain relevant entities – a change with real consequences for group structures\, joint ventures and supply chains common in industrial and infrastructure projects. This session unpacks what the new obligation requires\, how the updated Note to Parties interacts with it\, and what in-house and external counsel should be doing now to prepare. \n4. Preventing Disputes: Is the Mediation Window Friend or Foe?\nMulti-tiered dispute resolution clauses are standard in complex projects – but does the mediation window actually prevent disputes\, or does it merely delay and complicate them? This session examines the question from the perspective of industrial and infrastructure projects\, where the stakes are high and relationships long. We will look at what works\, what does not\, and how the clause is drafted in practice across our partnering jurisdictions. \n\nPanel 2: View from the bench\nA panel of senior judges from different jurisdictions on enforcement\, set-aside and the EU-law interface. A genuinely “joint” closing that ties back to Panel 1 and brings the day full circle. \nPRACTICALITIES\nDate\nThursday\, 3 December 2026. \nDay venue & Networking drinks \nDe Brauw\, Amsterdam Zuid. \nDinner\ncentral Amsterdam – venue to be confirmed. \nAccommodation\nas the evening programme takes place in the city centre\, we recommend booking accommodation there. \nREGISTRATION & FEES\n\n\nICC Belgium members: € 125\,- excl. VAT – Registration is required. \n\n\nNon-members: €350\,- excl. VAT\nRegistration and payment required at the time of registration. \n\n\n REGISTER HERE : Registration Form | ICC WBO Netherlands\nCancellation and no-show policy\nRegistration is a personal commitment. Cancellations must be received in writing no later than Thursday\, 26 November 2026 (one week before the event). \nRegistrants – including ICC members – who do not cancel by this deadline and do not attend will be charged the full registration fee of €350.
