ICC has announced four appointments to lead the work of its Global Environment and Energy Commission, a global forum for the business community to shape policy discussions on the international sustainability agenda, including climate change and green economy.
Under a strategic governance revamp, new vice-chairs from Walmart, Engie, Nature and Twenty Essex joined the leadership of the ICC Global Environment and Energy Commission.
The four appointments will bring significant experience and leading voices in the business community to the Commission’s leadership, including expertise on climate change, biodiversity, energy, sustainable finance, global supply chains and international arbitration.
The new leadership members – appointed on 1 April by ICC Secretary General John W.H. Denton AO – are:
Tom Smith, Director, Global Government Affairs, Walmart
Julia Maris, Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, Engie
Keyvan Macedo, Sustainability Director, Natura & Co
Wendy J Miles QC, Barrister, Twenty Essex
ICC Global Policy Director Andrew Wilson said: “We’re delighted to strengthen the leadership group of the important ICC Commission for our engagement on global sustainability issues. We are looking forward to working with the new leadership team and are honoured that they agreed to take on these new roles.”
The new Commission officers will work with the Global Environment and Energy Commission Chair and ICC Global Headquarters Environment and Energy team to provide strategic direction to ICC’s international sustainability agenda. Their work will drive business engagement on the development of coherent policy frameworks, solutions and tools that enable and scale enhanced ambition and action – in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, the United Nations (UN) Convention on Biological Diversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goalss – and facilitate a just and inclusive transition to a sustainable, net-zero emissions and nature positive economy.
The diversity of expertise, geographical and industry representation, will be instrumental in enriching the quality of ICC’s campaign to make climate action everyone’s business, and to ensure that trade works for people and the planet.

The commission will seek to appoint additional Vice-Chairs from the Africa, Middle East and Asia regions in the coming months to ensure the broadest geographical representation in the leadership team possible.
